Rajasthan Rat Temple

Deshnok(Rajastan, India) is a small village situated 32 km from Bikaner along the Jodhpur Road.

The 600 years old temple is home to thousands of black, Grey and white rats or Kaba.

The story of the temple is that a woman brought the body of her recently dead son to Karni Mata temple and asked her to restore the boy to life.

Karni Mata Temple

Karni Mata fell into a deep trance and encountered Yamaraja (the lord of death). But he told her that the boy had already accepted another body and could not be recalled. Karni refused to accept this and said that Yamaraja would no longer govern her tribe of Charans. At death, they would enter the bodies of kabas or sacred rats, and when the rats died they would be reborn as Charans.

In front of the temple is a beautiful marble facade, which has solid silver doors built by Maharaja Ganga Singh.

It is here that people honor and feed the rats, and believe it or not, the rats spread no disease and never populate the city where the temple is situated,

People thinking this place is honor all rats.
