Angkor Wat (Cambodia Temple)

  • Angkor wat is the world largest religious temple that is located in Cambodia that was built by Tamil king Suryavarman II.
  • The initial design and construction of the temple took place in the first half of the 12th century, during the reign of Suryavarman II (ruled 1113 – 1150).
  • During the construction of the temple the king was died after his death the construction works was completed

  • It was originally constructed as a Vishnu (The lord) temple for the Khmer Empire, gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple toward the end of the 12th century which continues to present day.
  • During the Suryavarman period this was a capital to khmer Empire.
  • The French writer Henri Mouhot written about this temple in his book,-

“One of these temples—a rival to that of Solomon, and erected by some ancient Michelangelo—might take an honourable place beside our most beautiful buildings. It is grander than anything left to us by Greece or Rome, and presents a sad contrast to the state of barbarism in which the nation is now plunged”

  • The temple constructed in 162.6 hectares (1,626,000 sq. meters)
  • The single side of the wall is 3.6 km length, we can see full of statue in the wall till start to end.
  • Total construction took 27 years.
  • After the fall of the Khmer empire the Angkor temples were abandoned and reclaimed by the jungle for centuries. Situated amid dense rain forest and rice paddies, many of the temples at Angkor have now been restored and welcome over two million tourists each year.

  • If we use our latest technology it took approximately 300 years to built temple like this said by an engineer, but that day they construct within 27 years. There are no words to explain our Tamil king Suryavarman II (Khmer Empire) talent.
